Live
live >> gig dates >> The Eggs >> LA Mitchell >> Adi Dick
Matterhorn has been working for over ten years with a core collective of musicians and DJ's, providing something for everyone, from the dry-and-heavy sounds of the Caribbean to booty-shakin’ boogaloo and alligator funk and right on through to dirty electro hullabaloo and cosmic disco.
Forthcoming, Thursday nights will see the Ravenmaster Series, created in partnership with Beefeater Gin to provide a soundtrack to back the last few months of winter indulgence for '09. Witness late-night mutterings of born-on-the-bayou backroom revelry while enjoying the urbane surrounds and top-shelf tipple always on-offer at Matterhorn.
Also setting-aside nights to present the established works of drifters and vagabonds touring the country on musical odysseys of their own, Matterhorn has recently played host to the budding brilliance of L.A. Mitchell, Roda do Samba featuring Brazilian chanteuse, Alda Rezende, the talented soul-jazz graces of Bella Kalolo, and various others.
And, who could forget the longest-running monthly rug-cut in residence, The Eggs? The last Saturday of every month, this veritable Wellington supergroup bring the funk that hits you like you stole something, but still leaves you hankering for more - live and well from the witching hour.
By creating tailor made environments for one off events and short term clubs, Matterhorn has also been instrumental in promoting both international and local artists in-house and through the use of external venues. Becoming lore in Wellington's murky history, these club seasons were created by a need to capture our culture with the sound of NOW... Shopping 1998 [converting a 1960's restaurant that was customised in the 80's for a dwarf's secretarial service], New Jazz Transplant 2000 [high-jacking a decrepit 1920's Ambulance building for a month], Common Factor [live] & Recloose, Plush Bomb at the Embassy Theatre [2001], Theo Parrish, Fat Freddy's Drop, Mark de Clive-Lowe, The Nextmen, Three Piece Suit, Nathan Haines Tour [2001], Russ Dewbury, Pete Lawrence, The New Zealand Festival's after hours Dans Paleis, Keb Darge, Ursula Rucker [live], and The MPC Heavyweight Championship of the World
